CS Yattani hosts the newly elected CoG Chair

Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury & Planning, Hon. Ambassador Ukur Yatani, today alongside his Devolution & ASALs counterpart, Hon. Eugene Wamalwa, hosted the newly-elected Chair of the Council of Governors, H. E. Martin Wambora, at his Treasury Building office.

During the courtesy call, Amb. Yatani congratulated Governor Wambora on his election and assured him of the National Treasury’s support in realising the objects of devolution. He further urged the Governor to ensure that County Governments improve their absorption of funds from the National Treasury, by promoting the application of proper and timely public investment management guidelines.

On his part, Hon. Wamalwa equally congratulated Governor on his election and assured him of his Ministry’s continued support, noting that County Governments are the engines of national growth. Governor Wambora thanked CS Yatani and Wamalwa for their warm welcome which he assured them would herald an era of servant and cooperative leadership at the Council of Governors.

He noted that the support of the National Treasury and the Ministry of Devolution, was key in the counties dealing with the challenge of COVID-19 and called for further cooperation to ensure that flagship projects in the counties, such as the Kenya Urban Support Programme and the Kenya Devolution Support Programme, receive the support envisaged, so as to realize dividends for counties.

The courtesy call was also attended by the Chairpersons of the Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA) and the Salaries & Remuneration Commission (SRC), Mrs Jane Kiringai and Mrs Lyn Mengich, respectively, alongside senior officials from the Council of Governors Secretariat, the National Treasury and the Ministry of Devolution & ASALs.
